Education: Technology at its Best

Technology affects every element of life. The Internet, smartphones and tablet computers changed the way people work and play, and technology changed education, too. Today, it is possible to earn a college degree over the Internet. This change is allowing many non-traditional students the opportunity to go to college.

Schools all over the world have made online college classes easier to attend than ever before. If your location is a hundred miles or more from your desired college, you no longer have to move to attend school. You don’t even have to live in the same country to take online classes. Many international students register for online degrees through U.S. schools, and U.S. students can take courses at colleges overseas.

As long as you have Internet access and a computer, you can complete long-distance courses and homework. You can even chat with instructors and classmates or take part in online study groups.

With the mobile computing devices available to just about every person, there is no reason to miss classes. Nearly all smartphones have Internet capability that will allow you to access your classroom through your phone. Mobile devices, such as a PSP or tablet PC, give you other options to attend class and make the grade.

By taking advantage of technology, you can turn your commute into a learning session. Imagine riding the train or bus and logging into class during the drive! You can even use widgets, plug-ins and apps to help you organize your schedule so you don’t miss school or work deadlines.

As technology continues to expand computing possibilities, you’ll find it easier to fit school into your life.

What Xbox Live Has Done For Gaming

Once upon a time, video game parties were limited to you and a buddy sitting in the living room. With the Nintendo64, four of you could play, but when Microsoft launched Xbox Live in 2002, suddenly gamers could play with dozens of players.  With the unveiling of the Xbox 360 in 2005, Microsoft revamped Xbox Live. The single most busy day for Microsoft was November 10, 2009, when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released and Xbox Live had 2 million people simultaneously signed on and gaming. As of February 2010, 23 million people had accounts on Xbox Live.

The idea of a gaming network that could connect millions of players all around the globe was a revolutionary one, and Microsoft was the first, and so far only, company to charge for such a service. Many PC games have online networks that players can access, but none have achieved the status and reputation of Xbox Live. An interesting side note in the development of Xbox Live is that Microsoft had originally experimented with developing a platform that would allow PC gamers to play with console gamers. It wound up being scrapped for unclear reasons that have sparked numerous conspiricy theories in the gaming world. However, in the trials for this new platform, hot-shot Xbox gamers were pitted against so-so PC gamers. Without fail, the PC gamers swept the board in every encounter. Console gamers were defeated, so badly that it was embarassing. In the end, Microsoft stuck to a console-only platform that continues to dominate the online multiplayer world.

Keeping Your Computer Current

Computer technology has come a long way in the last few years to giving the computer owner exactly what they need in an affordable package. If you are purchasing a new computer you may want to make sure that your needs will be met in the near future and that you will not be in a position to have to buy more software in the near future.

Keeping Your Computer Current

Ask the representatives what you need on your computer to stay current. If you are a big BetUS Online Casino game player, for example, you need to be sure that the software on your computer is going to be able to handle all of the work the games will put it through. In addition, you will likely need a fair amount of memory to keep the computer running seamlessly through game play.

Talking to a representative about what you should have on your computer as a gamer, or to watch videos, is important to ensuring you can use your computer to its fullest capacity. You also need to be sure that you have all of the correct document programs that can help you run a word processing program on your computer.

There are many to choose from and making sure that you are getting exactly what you want out of the computer. You want to be sure your computer can handle everything you throw at it and do it with grace and speed. It is not worth spending the money if you are not going to get a computer that can keep up with you

Will Apple’s iPad2 generate more sales than iPad?

Apple introduced iPad in 2010 and from there the tablet sales have rapidly increased to more than 15 million units. Apple’s iPad was able to crack the market where Windows Mobile Tablet failed.

Apple’s iPad has also helped other manufacturers such as HP, Sony, Samsung to design innovative new tablets and expand this new technology. Tablet computers are cheaper, more accessible and easier to use and handle. They can also help consumers travel light. High school and college students can carry them easily in their backpacks and this reduces the amount of weight carried by young students.

iPad and other tablet computers are capable of almost every task that other computers such as laptops and desktops can perform, except highly computational intensive scientific or financial software applications.

As the tablet computer market expanded and became more competitive, Apple had to come up with a newer and more innovative version of its original iPad so it could maintain or even expand its current market share in very difficult conditions.

Apple was courageous enough to introduce iPad during a very bad recession caused by Federal Reserve Bank, IMF and other international financial institutions, and took the risk to single handedly create a new product and a new market for tablet shape computers.

iPad2 is the newer version of iPad and it builds on the original one’s success. The form factor is sleeker, as Apple has sliced 33% of the thickness, and made the new iPad impossibly thin to handle, with its tapered edges and robust construction.

The new iPad2 is just 1.3 pounds compared to an average 6 pounds for every day laptops. However, storage capacity remains the same, with 16, 32 and 64GB solid state drives. iPad2 will generate more sales due to its faster processor and latest software.

Will Apple Retire MacBook Pro in favor of Macbook Air?

Apple has introduced new versions of MacBook Pros this year. The notebooks boast upgraded processors, more Random Access Memory (RAM) and and fewer configurations.  However, MacBook Pros have not introduced anything revolutionary except a new peripheral device connector with extremely high speeds called “Thunderbolt” which was developed by Intel for many years before Apple started collaborating with them.

The laptop market has become more and more competitive over the years and a few giant manufacturers are competing for market share. The laptop margins are thinning and the prices of latest machines is driven down by new and frequently updated machines. Apple stands out in this regard as a company which can command premium prices for its laptops and other gadgets due to its sophisticated brand cachet and a perception that Apple always introduces the latest and greatest in software and hardware technology.

The only other manufacturer which can command a premium in this cut-throat market is Sony. Apple and Sony together introduce most of the new form factors and latest innovations in computer market.

However, a number of manufacturers such as Toshiba, HP and Dell are closing in on Apple with sleek designs and lighter weight machines.  This makes it more and more difficult for Apple to differentiate its products while keeping its brand cachet intact at the same time.

Apple introduced a larger screen 13.3 inch extremely light weight MacBook Air in 2008 and then introduced an upgraded version in 2010.  MacBook Air has been very popular among consumers and the sales have surged since people want to travel light. People also want to purchase environmentally friendly products which use less material and energy.

Apple’s Steve Jobs indicated during 2010 introduction of MacBook Air notebooks that these machines are the future of laptops, and it is highly probable that Apple will phase out fatter MacBook Pros in next few years once a third iteration of MacBook Airs are introduced in the market which feature larger screens such as 15-inch and 17-inch versions for Business travellers, Gamers and Scientists.

Will Intel’s New Thunderbolt Replace USB3.0 as the Next Peripheral Device Connector?

In early 2011, Intel introduced a new peripheral device connector called “thunderbolt” in the updated Macbook Pro notebooks made by Apple. This device was formerly named “lightpeak” and was supposed to offer data transfer speeds across various devices at 10 to 100 times the speed of USB 2.0 peripheral device connector.

Intel has been working on this device since 2003 and wanted to use optical fiber cables for extremely high and secure data transfer, but the cost of designing and manufacturing optical fiber cables is still very high so they cannot be introduced in the consumer markets for connecting peripheral devices yet.

Therefore Intel used copper wires for transferring data.  Thunderbolt is more advanced than USB peripheral transfer technology, and it can transfer data up to 25 times the speed of current USB2.0 technology. USB manufacturers and researchers have now created USB3.0, a third generation data transfer specification which can transfer data at 5 GBit/s, which is half the data transfer speed of “Thunderbolt”, rated at 10GBit/s.

Many technology analysts are predicting that Thunderbolt will eventually replace USB3.0 and Universal Serial Bus technology altogether in the next few years. This may or may not come to pass, since there are pros and cons in the implementation strategy of Thunderbolt.

Intel is the 800 pound Gorilla of technology and almost 85% of all processors for computers in the consumer market are made by Intel. Such a dominant market share makes it really possible for Intel to introduce thunderbolt in large enough quantities through four or five dominant computer manufacturers such as Hewlett Packard, Dell, Acer, Lenovo, and Asus to replace USB3.0 as the dominant standard in the market.

However, other analysts are not so sure and they believe USB is here to stay and might continue to evolve with higher bandwidths and greater data transfer security.  This might lead to a situation where both Thunderbolt and USB continue to co-exist.
